Oblivion Review || January 4

Hello everybody! As some of you may know already (since I mention it in like all of my posts) I am a big fan of the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. In my opinion, it is the best thing ever created. Who knew that aliens in high school would actually become an incredible book series? I definitely didn’t. But anyways, if you haven’t read Obsidian yet, go give it a try. Loving the first book in a series is key to moving on and continuing the series.

Goodreads Summary:

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.

And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can’t stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy—a human—won’t just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen…

Review:

Oh-my-god, this book was magnificent. It was pretty up-beat and always left me standing on the tips of my toes. Reading from Daemon’s perspective was an incredible experience and I will definitely go back and give this book a reread.

Though I do love myself some Daemon Black, I found him a bit of a creep in this novel. Well yeah, I already knew he enjoyed babysitting Katy and watching over her but I didn’t think that he would be the type of person to spy on a girl before the girl even knew him. Like, that’s just very creepy.

But anyways, this book took me on a roller coaster ride of tears and laughter; happiness and fury. At one point, I felt so much sympathy for Daemon that I was sitting in the back seat of my parents car crying. but then again, at another point in this book, I found myself laughing my head off at like midnight. Quite some fun times I’ve had with Daemon Black.

I really enjoyed this book because unlike some other books that feature a different perspective than most of the series, I actually felt like I was inside Daemon’s head. You get to see Daemon’s true feelings towards Katy and it’s just super heart wrenching to read about a person not being able to be in a romantic relationship with someone else. I indulged this book like it was nothing and I can’t wait for more from Jennifer L. Armentrout!

Just in case you wanted to know, these are the quotes from the book that made me laugh and cry:

Dee plastered a blank look on her face. “You didn’t? Huh. I was pretty sure you said something like…” She deepened her voice.”‘I’d rather punch myself in the nuts than go to that stupid dance.’ Or something like that.”

I sat in my room laughing for about ten minutes after reading that little part. And it is quite hard to keep your laughing quiet when everyone else in your house is sleeping. Oh and a little tip, don’t try mimicking what Dee did there…. you will laugh even harder.

“I… I miss that idiot,” I said raggedly. Kat didn’t say anything, but she leaned over, wrapping her arms around me. I stiffened out of surprise. She didn’t seem to notice, because she squeezed me tight, and then she let go, pulling away.

I just loved this part so much and felt a lot of sorrow towards Daemon. Throughout the whole book, Daemon is always thinking about Dawson; what life would be like with him still alive. But this was when he actually came out for the first time in front of Katy. And it made my heart swell up when Katy just leaned over and gave him a hug. A.K.A the first embrace between Daemon and Katy.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading my review for this book. It was an amazing book and I highly suggest it to all of you. (or at least after you read Obsidian)

Happy Reading!
