Review: Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout (warning this review is very messy)

Let me start off by saying that this book absolutely killed my soul. End of review…… I’m kidding. How could a review be left that short?!?! But it is true, this book is a total KILLER!

**WILL BE SPOLIERS**

Origin (Lux, #4)Information:

Title/Author: Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Series: Lux (#4)

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Release Date: August 27, 2013

ISBN: 1622660757

Synopsis:

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

My Thoughts:

Why, oh why did Jennifer HAVE to split Daemon and Katy. I swear, if she puts me in that much pain again, my heart will absolutely shatter.

If you didn’t know, Daemon and Katy got separated at the end of Opal. Not like break up separation, but actual separation. Katy got taken away by the DOD while everyone tried to save Bethany. And just like that, this book begins.

Something I really enjoyed about this book was the dual perspectives. When this book released, we didn’t have any books solely in Daemon’s perspective. But, Jennifer got the cue after Opal released. It was so different reading the romance from Daemon’s perspective. It was almost as if he was desperate throughout the whole novel. But there is seriously no complaining when it comes to that since the romance between Daemon and Katy was on point in Origin!

As I said above, Katy was taken away by the DOD at the end of Opal. I was so shook up and scared of how the DOD would be in this book. But, you know, they’re just these dudes who keep syringes and knives in arms length reach. Not scary at all. But anyways, I felt so sorry for Katy throughout the first half of this novel. Having to be in as much pain as she was is so cruel and heartbreaking.

Now moving on from talking about the DOD (because I hate them soooo much…), I thought I would just briefly bring up the topic of: LUC AND ARCHER. Our little Origins. They played such a big role in this storyline (hence the title) and I love that the author introduced us to them. And can I just say, LUC IS THE BEST TEENAGE MAFIA TO EVER EXIST. And even though he still plays on a DS, can he be my BFF?

The writing of this book was completely on point. Jennifer took us on a wild rollercoaster from Area 51, to Nevada, and then all the way to Luc’s “not so little” house in a forest. Some how, Jennifer was able to either perfectly envision these places or she had visited them previously. But kudos to the author for some how making a masterpiece out of an alien jail a.k.a. AREA 51.

One of the things I highly disliked about this book was all of the characters dying. And “most” died at the same time. First it was Blake. I didn’t really care about his death but it still made me sad. All of the scenes when he first arrived to Ketterman flooded through my head when I read about his death. And then Ash, Andrew and Paris all died at the Luxen explosion site in Las Vegas. None of them deserved what happened to them but, that’s life as an alien. You risk it all for the ones you love.

Origin was definitely an automatic page turner. You get so into it that you just cannot stop reading. It was a drop-everything-on-the-floor and devour a book kind of read. I highly suggest you read it if you have finished Opal.

I hope you all enjoyed my “very messy” review. Happy Reading! ~Alaina
