Teaser Tuesday #33

Hey Book Nerds, and welcome back for another teaser! If you already follow my blog, you may’ve noticed that I didn’t post yesterday. WHOOPS! I had a post idea that I planned to write up, but I got so into my current read that I just decided to call it a reading day. It’s been a while since I read over 200 pages in one day, but it felt so good! So now, you may be wondering, “What is this fantastic book that you are talking about, Alaina?” Well, let’s get straight into the teaser!

I looked up at the canopy. No matter how much I sometimes wanted it, there was no normal. There never had been. “Normal” and “natural” were the biggest lies we’d ever created. We humans with our little minds. And maybe being normal wouldn’t suit me.

This book is amazing! It is super fast-paced and constantly makes you crave more. The past few fantasy books that I have read this summer were all 4 stars or below. I haven’t read a lot of content recently that makes me want to give it a reread. But, I already know that I am going to be buying the next books. And I know that I will be reading them as soon as I get them. The only problem: the rest of the hardcovers are over $30 EACH!

But,I have fallen in love with Paige’s character. She is strong, stubborn, and knows what she wants. And then we have WARDEN! I have been waiting all summer for a semi-love interest. There really isn’t any love between them, but you can feel it brewing between them!

The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1)The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

And that is it fr this week’s teaser! I hope you all enjoyed it. If you’ve read The Bone Season, definitely leave some non-spoilery thoughts below! Don’t forget to like, and follow to stay up to date with future blog posts!

Happy Reading,

Teaser Tuesday #32

Hey Book Nerds! It’s Alaina, and I am back with another teaser this week! I’ve been doing a decent amount of reading during the last week and am over half way done an ADULT book. It really isn’t often that I pick up an adult book but I thought, why not give it a go? It is summer break, and I like to open myself up to harder books when I have more free time. I’m so excited to share a teaser from my current read with all of you today, so let’s get into it!

They met in a large warehouse out on the outskirts of New London. Javel knew the place; at one point it had been used to house lumber before sale or transport to Crossing’s End. But Thorne had apparently taken it over for his own dark work. One of his innumerable Census thugs met Javel at the door,  looked him over for a moment, and then waved him inside. Javel found himself in a small antechamber, lit by a weak fire, surrounded by men who looked just as angry and confused as himself.

This wasn’t the perspective that I wanted to give you all a glimpse at, but it will do. I was hoping that I was on the “Queen’s” chapter, since it will give you a little bit more of an understanding. But poor Javel, the gate guard, will have to do.

I fell in love with this book within the first 10 pages. It is filled with beautiful writing, intricately wound story lines, and complex characters. But the best part about it… it feels like a YA book! When people say something like, “The Queen of the Tearling is like a YA novel with an adult main character,” they weren’t lying. This book really does remind me of a YA novel, and it is only put in the adult section since Queen Kelsea is 19!

Below is the synopsis for the novel:

The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1)An untested young princess must claim her throne, learn to become a queen, and combat a malevolent sorceress in an epic battle between light and darkness in this spectacular debut—the first novel in a trilogy.

Young Kelsea Raleigh was raised in hiding after the death of her mother, Queen Elyssa, far from the intrigues of the royal Keep and in the care of two devoted servants who pledged their lives to protect her. Growing up in a cottage deep in the woods, Kelsea knows little of her kingdom’s haunted past . . . or that its fate will soon rest in her hands.

Long ago, Kelsea’s forefathers sailed away from a decaying world to establish a new land free of modern technology. Three hundred years later, this feudal society has divided into three fearful nations who pay duties to a fourth: the powerful Mortmesne, ruled by the cunning Red Queen. Now, on Kelsea’s nineteenth birthday, the tattered remnants of the Queen’s Guard—loyal soldiers who protect the throne—have appeared to escort the princess on a perilous journey to the capital to ascend to her rightful place as the new Queen of the Tearling.

Though born of royal blood and in possession of the Tear sapphire, a jewel of immense power and magic, Kelsea has never felt more uncertain of her ability to rule. But the shocking evil she discovers in the heart of her realm will precipitate an act of immense daring, throwing the entire kingdom into turmoil—and unleashing the Red Queen’s vengeance. A cabal of enemies with an array of deadly weapons, from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magic, plots to destroy her. But Kelsea is growing in strength and stealth, her steely resolve earning her loyal allies, including the Queen’s Guard, led by the enigmatic Lazarus, and the intriguing outlaw known simply as “the Fetch.”

Kelsea’s quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begun. Riddled with mysteries, betrayals, and treacherous battles, Kelsea’s journey is a trial by fire that will either forge a legend . . . or destroy her.

And that is all for today! I hope you all enjoyed this week’s teaser. Have you read Queen of the Tearling? If so, leave some non-spoilery thought below. Don’t forget to like and follow to stay up to date with future posts!
